Lab kit such as sensors, controllers and data loggers don’t come cheap.
A Pi wearing a Sense HAT could do everything from monitoring plant growth to controlling and logging experimental variables.
The Sense HAT has an 8×8 RGB LED matrix, a five-button joystick and includes the following sensors:

Dave Akerman hooked a Raspberry Pi with a webcam and GPS up to a hydrogen balloon, which got nearly 40km up (39,994m, to be precise) before bursting. This means that Dave’s is the first Raspberry Pi to visit near space (it returned unharmed, and Dave was able to recover it).
Ultra portable, mobile Raspberry Pi that you can take to-go.
"The RPi platform has to be one of the cheapest ways to create a cluster of 32 nodes. The cost for an RPi with an 8GB SD card is ~$45. For comparison, each node in the Onyx cluster was somewhere between $1,000 and $1,500. So, for near the price of one PC-based node, we can create a 32 node Raspberry Pi cluster!"
